Report from the 2012 Junior Get-Together

2011 Junior PrizewinnersWhat a great evening was enjoyed by all. 92 people sat down for dinner, including officers of the club, parents and supporters. Everyone said how much they enjoyed the evening and the food. Before the proceedings began, Dave Allen distributed a Golf Rules Quiz to all tables, answers to which were given at the end of the evening.

Jan Jackson, Diane Bell and Angela Byers were persuading people to part with their money for a raffle in aid of junior funds. Christine thanked them, and also thanked Jan, who arranged the prize presentation table. They had actually started selling tickets on the previous Wednesday, when quite a few of the Ladies Section were at the club, and received £82 from the ladies – thank you ladies.

After the meal, our Club Captain, Ian Dowson welcomed everyone and said how impressed he was by our Junior Section, by this Presentation Evening, and what a great job was being done by our Junior Members and the Junior Organising Committee. He thanked everyone involved. This was then followed by the J.O. yearly report.

Christine then handed over to Junior Captain for 2011, Sam Walker, who said what a great year it had been and concurred with the words of our Club Captain. Sam thanked the junior members for their support throughout the year and that of the J.O.C. He then introduced Jake Chadwick as our Junior Captain for 2012, saying that they had become firm friends during the year and said what a good golfing year it had been for Jake, who reduced his playing handicap from 17 down to 11. Jake thanked Sam and, before commencing his speech, presented Sam with his "official" photograph to commemorate his year. Jake then went on to thank the J.O.C. for giving him the opportunity to be Junior Captain and said how honoured and proud he was. He would try to lead from the front and support all the juniors and the J.O.C. in 2012. Jake then introduced Liam Rowe as our Junior Vice-Captain for 2102 saying they had become good friends during 2011 and that Liam had also had a very good golfing year, reducing his playing handicap from 18 down to 11. Liam responded by thanking Jake for his comments and said he would do everything to support Jake, the Junior Section and the J.O.C.

The Trophies & prizes were then presented to the 2011 winners by Mr Captain, Lady Captain, Anne McCulloch and our immediate past Junior Captain. A list of the winners can be viewed by clicking on the link below.

Christine added some information during the presentation of the prizes. "The Blue Tee Golfer of the Year award was won by Jodie Flowers, who started the year with a 9-hole handicap, progressed to an 18 hole handicap (from the Blue Tees) and then went even further by achieving a handicap which allowed her to play from the Red Tees, achieving a CONGU handicap and playing in her first Ladies Competition". "Unfortunately, Phil Jackson could not present the K.O. trophy to the winner Mike Dewsbury as Mike was in Spain preparing to play in the Andalucía Junior European Open; we send Mike our good wishes." Phil could, however, present the runner-up prize to Sam White, who was also presented with a special award on behalf of the Junior Section by Sam Walker. This was to wish Sam (White) every success as he takes up a Ski-coaching instructors course in Canada for three months. Sam White then spoke of behalf of the Junior Section and all the prize winners in thanking the J.O.C. for all their hard work and for making the year and the evening such an outstanding success.

Jan Jackson, on behalf of the J.O.C., then presented Christine with a beautiful flower arrangement. Jan also announced that the raffle had made £209 – certainly a very successful evening all 'round.
