Junior Medal 9.30am
The Staffordshire boys team, including our own Mike Dewsbury, won their first ever Boys County Championship in emphatic fashion as the sun shone at Kedleston Park in Derbyshire last week. They did it in style by beating Devon 8-1, while defending champions Yorkshire finished in second spot after overcoming Hampshire, Isle of Wight and Channel Islands 6½ - 2½.
In direct contrast to the two previous days when there was little to separate the four counties, the final matches were clear cut in the extreme and in the end everything came down to games won.
What a very enjoyable evening yet again for this annual competition. We had 18 pairs playing and everyone, irrespective of their score, said how much they enjoyed the event. I am very pleased to report that we had quite a few of our younger juniors joining in. However, some of them indicated that they may ditch their parent for next year and find another partner?
This year, we welcomed some of the parents who are not members of Brocton. Namely, John Golding playing with daughter Hannah, Kevin Hunt playing with daughter Holly and Nigel Powell playing with son Lewis. Hope you all enjoyed it. Other playing combinations included grandparents partnering their grandchildren. So it was good to see Ron and Yvonne Flowers with Harry and Jodie, Terry Perrin with Ben and Colin Rowe with Mia-Evie.
She's at it again. Great scoring from Jodie saw her lift the Bryan Baker Trophy. Well, when I say lift, if anyone has seen the size and felt its weight, I think you will know that Jodie will probably need a helping hand at the Junior Dinner! This fantastic score has reduced Jodie's handicap by 6.1 shots, down to 23.7. Five of these were to do with the competition, the extra one was under the Exceptional Score Ruling. How exciting is that?
George's very good 66 cut his handicap by 0.9 of a shot down to 14.8. Keep focusing George.
This is one of our newer trophies, which was presented in 2006 by the family of Bryan Baker in his memory. Bryan was a past Captain and President of the club.
The Ladies v Gents Match is on Sunday 22nd of September. The sign-up sheets will be up on the noticeboards this week so keep a look-out and get your name down as it's always a great fixture in the calendar!
