Hello there
I cannot deny that I am one happy camper! I have heard so many times (by non South Africans) in this last week that 'It is just a game'. For a South African, it is not. South Africa is a beautiful, complex country that faces immense challenges every day. We fight with one another, we rally together against corruption, we fear crime; we look over our shoulders at every turn. It's not safe there in so many regards: the economy is unstable, people are homeless, hungry, desperate and there is so much aching poverty. In SA, you are on edge and anxious all the time. The future is unclear – there is so much hatred and so much sadness. A win like this unites South Africa again; even if only for an hour, a day, or even a few weeks. They will take it. The Springboks remind us what an incredibly resilient people we are and they give every South African hope. For those that are wondering what I am going on about, South Africa beat New Zealand in the World Cup Rugby Final. And now for the cricket 🙂🙂
It is the October lottery draw tomorrow afternoon in the 1894 Bar. Numbers 11, 16, 19, 28, 29, 35, 40, 41, 43, 49, 52, 57, 59, 60, 61, 66, 74, 79, 82, 87, 89, 90, 93, 95 and 98 are available. Any of those calling your name? Please let me know by noon tomorrow if you would like to join our 'You have to be in it to win it' lottery. You could win £160!
Matt Wilkes wins the Member Photo of the Month with the Brocton double pot of gold (main photo)! Matt gets a fiver for a drink to celebrate his win 🙂 Please keep sending your photos. As I have mentioned before, there are so many long standing members that aren't able to get to the club anymore who absolutely love them - generalmanager@broctonhall.com
The Greens team have been continuing the prep work on the bunkers, stripping turf, removing the old sand, installing new drains and reshaping where necessary to stop water running off slopes around the greens and into the bunkers.
Last week the greens were slit tined, this helps drainage and compaction and opens up the sward to aid aeration and avoids a sealed surface which helps reduce standing water.
Thanks to Nevil & Katie and all our members for another great year of Tuesday Social's! Over 1,400 competitors have played and there's been some great stableford scoring plus we've had a lot of scores posted of 2, 3 and even 4 under par gross for 9 holes.

Whatever the occasion, whether it's a casual drink after a great round of golf, Sunday lunch or popping in for a bite to eat with friends, we have a new cocktail menu to satisfy any thirsty tastebuds.
Along with our cocktails, the Gin of the Week is Hedgerow Spirits Blackberry & Apple Gin - a dry gin with clear juniper notes and subtle & delicious, fruity tones. Following the mantra of what grows together, goes together we experimented with these two hedgerow staples; blackberries, the jewel-like, mellow, juicy fruit and the sweet & sour green apple, blending it with Hedgerow Gin.
You are invited to send any questions in that you would like one of the Management Committee members to answer. Often a committee member is approached on the putting green with a question that might not relate to their area of knowledge. This is a way for you to ask those questions.
Early last year the 'Matches' tab was moved to showcase our social events to all members. If you are unsure where it is, click on the 'Competitions' tab at the top of the webpage and then 'Matches'
