General Statement of Occupational Health & Safety Policy

Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974

Brocton Hall Golf Club regards good Health and Safety practice as a vital part of its business.

It is therefore Brocton Hall Golf Club’s policy for Management and Employees at all levels to do all that is reasonably practicable to attain the highest level of Health and Safety.

It is our general policy to ensure, so far as is reasonably practicable, the Health & Safety and welfare at work of our employees and the Health & Safety of other persons who may be affected by our undertaking, including club members, junior club members and the public using our course and clubhouse facilities.

Our aim is to achieve a culture of zero tolerance to or acceptance of unacceptable Health & Safety hazards and risks, thereby underpinning our commitment to preventing injury and cases of occupational ill-health. We will seek to continually improve our management of Health & Safety to help fulfil this aim.

We will comply with the requirements of relevant Health & Safety legislation and approved codes of practice and, as appropriate, strive to implement relevant guidance published by the Health and Safety Executive and industry bodies.

More specifically, we will ensure that:

  • work equipment is suitable for its intended purpose, it is maintained in safe working order and is used correctly;
  • safe storage is provided for hazardous substances and they are used in accordance with the manufacturers’ instructions;
  • the workplace is maintained in a safe condition (including fire safety) with adequate heating, lighting and ventilation;
  • suitable welfare facilities (including first-aid) are provided and maintained;
  • suitable personal protective equipment is provided to reduce the risks of injury or ill-health where hazards and risks cannot be controlled by other, more effective, means;
  • employees are adequately instructed, trained and supervised in the Health & Safety requirements applicable to their work.

We will implement appropriate arrangements to ensure that workplace situations that present serious or imminent danger are identified and, as necessary, adequate emergency arrangements are in place.

We will conduct and record suitable and sufficient risk assessments (including fire safety and occupational health) to identify hazards and significant risks in order to establish the necessary controls required to fulfill our Health & Safety obligations and reduce or minimize unacceptable risks.

We will investigate work-related accidents and incidents to identify any potential deficiencies in our management of Health & Safety and, as appropriate, opportunities for improvement.

To support us in managing Health & Safety, we will seek to ensure the active engagement and cooperation and consultation with our employees and, as necessary, others (including club members).

When identified by risk assessment, we will provide employees with appropriate health surveillance.

We will appoint a competent person1 to provide us with Health & Safety assistance to support us in fulfilling our Health & Safety obligations.

Our employees, including any temporary and casual, are expected to actively co-operate with us in complying with Health & Safety requirements.

We will implement such management arrangements as are necessary to put this policy into effect.

This policy statement will be brought to the attention of our employees and club members.

We will review and amend this policy statement, as necessary, to ensure it remains appropriate to fulfil our managerial, operational and legal needs.

This policy statement is approved and replaces the previous version with immediate effect.
