Junior Championship Report

It was really rather amazing that we had 16 juniors playing in this 36-hole competition. This is far the greatest number in the last ten years (since the current records on the web site start). For at least 7 of them it was their first 36 -hole event. Brilliant. In addition we had 4 juniors with club handicaps playing in the 18-hole comp. and 3 in the 9-hole comp. You may think this was all about “The Championship” and indeed it is. But, may I recommend that you read to the end of this report.

As you are all aware the scores and results for both rounds of The Championship are shown on our web site. So I am just going to do a precis. So CONGRATULATIONS go to:

Champion (Gross)                     Hannah Golding                        143 shooting a Gross 70 in Round 2

Champion (Nett)                        Max Hunter                               129 Nett

There were fabulous scores from many players resulting in handicap reductions - Max down 2 to 25; Tom Andrews down 2 to 18; George Johnson down 1 to 6; Ellie Ashley-Brown originally down 3 to 26 but then an ESR was added which brought her down another 2 shots to 24. Hannah was gutted that her Gross 70 didn’t drop her enough to alter her playing handicap. She is only off 2.5 !! Great going everyone.

It was good to see a few of our more “senior” members playing - Harvey Hall; George Johnson and Jake Sheldon. Thank for your continued support guys.

For this competition, both the 36 & 18 holes there was an optional “2s” event. Three players got a 2 Tom Andrews, Harvey Hall and Ellie Treadwell. They will each receive £14.50, which I have for them.

Div. B – 18-hole Stableford

Now, what about our 18-hole Club Handicaps? Well, 1st with an amazing 45 Stableford points (yes – 45) was David Haenelt who plays from the Red Tees. The software suggests that his handicap should be reduced by 6 shots!!! But, I think that is a little cruel so I am only cutting him 4 shots down to 30. Well done again David. However, I think the Yellow/White tees may be beckoning soon? The other players Thomas Efford; Kerr Dollochin and Finlay Musker all scored in the high 20’s so well done all round.

9-Hole Stableford

I am delighted to say that we had two new members playing in their first competition, Jay Atkin and Harry Sutton. I hope you enjoyed it lads. Although you never would have guessed it was their first competition because:-

1st        Harry Sutton                  - 28 Stableford points - wow. Am I not sorry to say that I am                                                         reducing his handicap by 5 shots down to 22 (for 9 holes).

2nd       Jay Atkin                      - 19 points (also below handicap)

3rd       Richard Haenelt             - 17 points. Very steady going again Richard off your new handicap. Build your stamina up and we will have you playing 18 holes before long.

In the absence for the morning round of our usual Starter John Perkin, Pete & Diane Allder bridged the gap, so grateful thanks from our Junior Section to you both. Thanks again to our On-Course helpers, Gilly Cooper, Nicki Bowen and Paul Sutton. Nicki then stayed to check and enter the cards for both rounds, resulting in a long day. You are a star Nicki.
