Junior Captain's Day Report - 29th July 2019

What a fabulous day with 23 juniors taking part with some remarkable scores. The top seven players in Div. A all playing to or below the CSS which was 70/71. In Ellie’s case resulting in a handicap reduction of 5 shots, down to 28. As the Course had been closed on Sunday there was a concern about the playability of it on Monday. We need not have worried. Brocton usually drains well after the rain stops but, needless to say the Bunkers were full of water. Many thanks to the Green Keepers, led by Richard Quine, for pumping the water out of all the bunkers before the start of play. The Course was in remarkable condition.

Oliver Nichols       12 points Sleeve of Golf Balls

Hannah our Junior Captain ran a Putting Competition, ably supported and set up by the Pro’s shop, which was won by Bethan Ashley-Brown who also received a sleeve of golf balls.

Now, those with sharp eyes may think that we treat Div. A and Div. B differently?? Well - we don’t, it is just that no one in Div. B landed on the 9th green.

The Captain decides if they wish to run an optional “2s” competition, which Hannah did this year. Would you believe that there was only one 2 and that was from Ethan Evans on the 9th hole. Although Ethan doesn’t know this yet (well he will now) he will be receiving £28.50

What a great day all ‘round with lots of noise and laughter – just as it should be.

Such a day doesn’t happen with lots organisation and involvement. My thanks to Madam President, Diane Bell and Madame Captain Trish Franklin for supporting our juniors and presenting the prizes. To John Perkin our Starter; to Colin Thompson for the On-Course and presentation photos (also on WhatsApp) and On-Course helpers Gilly Cooper and Gordon Booth. And what about the Halfway House? -  A must for juniors. This was totally organised by Phyl Broome who supplied “goodies” and the balloons; to Jenny Bulman, Mary Robertson and Anne Rees for their baking skills and to Julia Nicholls for providing the Strawberries.  Huge thanks to Nicki Bowen for entering the scores, finalizing the competition and for giving the results after lunch.

A team of which we are very proud.
