Where do we start? What a brilliant day and evening and thank you for all the lovely comments. The Barbeque and games, not forgetting the music (supplied by Nicki) were a complete “hit”. Thanks to all involved to; Phyl Broome for providing the “bunting”; Nicki, Heather and Sharon Jefferies for putting it into place; to Nicki & Sharon for looking after the juniors at the Halfway House with biscuits and squash; to Mike Dewsbury for organising the chipping competition in the evening, won by Alfie Poole who gets a sleeve of Pro V balls - well done Alfie.
To our committee for organising the games, it looked like everyone enjoyed them. Thanks go to two of our youngest members Freddie Booth and Charlie Edensor for looking after the games and encouraging people to play. What no one knows is that there is a small voucher for each of the Junior Winners who took part (sorry Adults). So a voucher goes to Max Hunter for winning the “Tin Can Knock Down” with 48 points; to Freddie Booth for the “Boules”; to Ethan Evans for the “Quoits” with 60 points. You must each see me in order to collect your voucher.
The Competition - Each junior received a special “125 Anniversary” ball marker before they went out to play. The competition was a Texas Scramble played in Teams of three with at least one CONGU handicapper in each team. 10% of the combined handicaps was taken off the final Gross Score. Now the additional fun part, each competitor was only allowed to take three clubs plus a putter - a fun challenge then? There was also a 9-hole competition along the same lines but Richard Haenelt, Freddie Booth and Charlie Edensor were allowed to take all of their clubs. They all received a sleeve of 3 golf balls presented in the evening. Good going gentlemen. It looks like we will have to organise more Texas Scrambles because every one of the juniors said what a great day they had.
This Special Day was very kindly sponsored by Stuart and Yvonne Hunter, who I can’t thank enough for their support to our Junior Section. The winners each received an engraved slate trophy, which they keep, together with a voucher for £15. The Runners up each received vouchers for £10.
So who received these? In first place was Junior Vice-Captain, Ethan Evans playing with Kade Stewart and Kerr Dollochin scoring 63.3. Just to say that Ethan dragged himself from his injured state to play, thanks Ethan. Although I did say that he only needed to chip & putt - what do I know?
Runners up were Maria-Tiffany Thompson playing with Daniel Kirsch and Charley Mears with 65.7. Greatly helped I suspect by Charley scoring a 2 on the 9th.
I must also mention and thank our Junior Captain Hannah for agreeing that she would go out as a 2 ball because we had a junior cry-off. Thanks as usual to Mr. “Starter” John Perkin and to Gordon Booth for looking after our 9-hole competitors.
It gives me considerable delight to say a big Thank-You to our Lady President Diane Bell and to Chair of Management, Steve Burgin for attending the evening do and to Diane for presenting the prizes. A great support for our Junior Section, thank you.
