Hello there
Well the bulk of the membership will be happy with the weekends rugby 🙂 Difficult to see the Springboks looking all sweet in turquoise but they were thinking of viewers that were colour blind. Hopefully England will face the green and gold again in the final 🙂 And that is definitely SA and not Australia. I am happy for anyone other than Eddie Jones to win 🙂 Well and France and Ireland and New Zealand and and and..
No comments on this photo please! 🙂
Congratulations to Coco Gauff and Novak Djokovic for playing some sensational tennis and winning the US Open.
Lady Captain, Ann Williams hosted a fantastic away day at Walmley Golf Club. It was great to see all the ladies together enjoying a Pimms out on the balcony after a scorching day out on a fabulous course. Thank you Ann!
Important notice - When booking a guest onto the tee sheet, members need to select the members guest green fee of £30. The Twilight rate is now from 4pm and is £22. Members must not select the nine hole green fee option (the nine hole green fee is only for Juniors and people who are only physically capable of nine holes - these are at the discretion of the Pro Shop only).
The course maintenance work was completed in less than two days and 50 tonnes of sand has been applied to the greens. We need to all have in mind that now this work has been completed they need to recover and we will hopefully enjoy the standard of surface that we have all become used to at Brocton Hall. The great rain today will certainly help with the recovery.
49 golfers in last weeks Tuesday Social played during course maintenance week. Well done to Jason Ashley winning the parking space on local rule. Great scoring from lots of people with many tales of long putts holed on treated greens!
Ladies
In scorching heat, Lady Captain Ann Williams, Jacqui Brocklehurst and Caroline Wilkins took top honours in the Lady Captain's Away Day. Well done Ladies!
Juniors
The men sponsored the Chase Trophy on Sunday. This involves a gent partnering a junior in a Greensomes format. Everyone enjoyed a fun afternoon and there were some great scores.
The men provided sandwiches and chips for the juniors afterwards in the Vardon Lounge and Captain, Dave Parkes handed out the prizes.
It may be early to think about Christmas and yet our Christmas Day lunch is fully booked!! If you would like to book a Christmas lunch, dinner of Party Night in December, the new menus are up - https://www.broctonhall.com/christmas_menus
Our Gin of the Week is distilled with a focus on the zesty sweetness of Costa Rican pineapples, which delivers a wonderful fresh tropical fruit flavour served with a Mediterranean Tonic water. No loud shirts allowed though - unless it is Saturday evening!
Thank you to all our members who have been supporting (and drinking) our gin specials.
''Oh, yes, it's 80's Knight
Oh, what a night (oh, what a night)''
It is nearly time for Brocton's ultimate 80's disco! If you are a fan of the neon lights and funky beats of the 80s, please book your ticket before Wednesday evening.
You are invited to send any questions in that you would like one of the Management Committee members to answer. Often a committee member is approached on the putting green with a question that might not relate to their area of knowledge. This is a way for you to ask those questions.
The September issue of the SUGC's Staffordshire Golfer is out. You can read it by clicking here

May you have many joyous moments and fewer shots on the course.
I was wondering how many golf balls we now have in our lake after Saturdays Pros Day Texas Scramble 🙂 so I started looking for golf courses that have the largest water hazards. Which took me to the weirdest golf courses which took me to the moon. While there may not be a golf course (yet) on the moon, Astronaut Alan Shepard snuck a modified club in his suit on the Apollo 14 in February 1971. He duffed the first and claimed the second to have gone miles and miles. In 2021 while remastering images taken during that 1971 mission to the moon, that very same golf ball was found 40 yards from where he hit it. That's 50 years later! Pretty impressive to hit a modified six iron with one and with a quarter swing out of an unrated bunker - while being fully suited, wearing a helmut and thick gloves. And yes, with the moon's gravity only one sixth of the Earth's. You may have learnt something today 🙂
Happy golfing everyone,
Karen
