Hello there
What an incredible win for the England cricket team yesterday against India. Beating India on their home soil, in front of home supporters and with them having only lost three of their last 48 home tests, is extraordinary. Moments after securing a sweet victory, Ben Stokes handed Ollie Pope and Tom Hartley souvenir stumps that deserve to be sprayed in gold and hung with pride in any museum. Pope’s 196 and Hartley’s seven for 62 on debut were performances to rank alongside the greatest by England players overseas and this 28-run victory must sit at the top of the pile for wins by England on the road.
Thank you to all the members who attended our AGM on Saturday evening. A hearty congratulations and welcome to our incoming President and Captains. We look forward to a great year of golf and most importantly enjoy your year.
Tomorrow afternoon sees a double draw for the lottery. As I was away at the end of December, there was no lottery draw so tomorrow afternoon I will draw six winners. Good luck!
Congratulations to Dylan Brierley and Molly McMurray who have qualified to represent Brocton Hall in the Race to Woodhall Spa event. The Race to Woodhall Spa is a competition organised by England Golf, the club winners being the players with the lowest aggregate of 4 nett differentials in all 18 hole individual handicap qualifying club competitions. Dylan and Molly will be playing in the Area Final at Bloxwich Golf Club in June. Winners from there will go on to play in the finals at Woodhall Spa. This is particularly impressive as both Dylan and Molly are juniors and this event is open to all age groups in the club.
Brocton Hall, both course and club, is loved by many and we receive so many five star reviews to show this. We are lucky here at Brocton Hall to have a Management Committee, volunteers and an amazing team of staff members that ensure your experience here at Brocton is a top rate one. Have a read for yourself
My apologies to John Sly for missing this photo of interesting sculpture in one of the sand piles in the car park in early November. Thank you John! Please do keep sending in your member photos to generalmanager@broctonhall.com. I receive many messages from members thanking me for sharing them.

Mike Mason correctly guessed the combined total of 393 yards and wins the prize (I had 391 down). £190 Was raised yesterday for the Captains charity, the Alzheimer's Society.

22 Juniors played in the 9 hole comp for the Captain's and President's Drive In
Mr Captain Phil and Mr President Ned very generously provided drinks and sweets for the Juniors before they went out on the course and gave out Pro Shop Vouchers to the winners in the Vardon Lounge afterwards

You are invited to send any questions in that you would like one of the Management Committee members to answer. Often a committee member is approached on the putting green with a question that might not relate to their area of knowledge. This is a way for you to ask those questions
Please remember that the rakes next to the newly refurbished bunkers on the back 9 are only for raking over the sand after retrieving a ball. Please note that these bunkers are still GUR.
All of us at Brocton Hall wish our many members with a birthday this week a very Happy Birthday! Happy Birthday to Anna Byrne, Jarrod Pugh, Roger Howarth, Patricia Iyer, Ben Williams, Ben Handley, Sue Ward, Nicholas Emery, Ian Partington, Matthew Williamson, Wendy Field, Luke Elsmore, Rebecca Hill, Thomas Hill. May your life be filled with birdies and eagles and no bogeys. Happy Birthday!
It's February Frenzy in the Pro Shop!
Throughout February the Pro Shop will endeavour to bring bargains to all the members! Adam has devised an idea that should do exactly that, and so for every day in February there will be a different item on sale (and there are some huge savings to be had!)
But there is a catch! The sale item will only be on sale for that day only and once its gone its gone! So you’ve got to act fast!
To make it fair, each sale will begin at 8am of each morning and be both posted Facebook and within the shop. It will work as stated above on a first come first served basis, so don’t be slow or you will miss out!
HOLE IN ONE
President Ned and Captain Phil were playing in the club’s foursomes. Ned hit a great drive down the middle – Phil sliced the second shot into a copse of trees. Unfazed Ned played a brilliant recovery shot, which went onto the green a foot from the pin. Phil poked at the putt and sent it ten feet beyond the pin. The President lined up the long putt and sank it. He turned to the Captain and said, “We’ll have to do better. That was a bogey five.” “Don’t blame me,” Phil quipped, “I only took two of them.” 🙂🙂 I hope you both have a fun year!
Happy golfing everyone,
Karen
