THREE OFF THE TEE 4 MARCH '24 NEWSLETTER

Hello there

One would think an Irishman is used to the disastrous weather that has wrecked tee times around the world. But alas, Shane Lowry hopes faded of winning the Cognizant Classic during a weather-delayed final round, giving Austin Eckroat his breakthrough PGA Tour victory by three shots.

Do we need to upgrade our practice area? This was Rory warming up for the Dubai Desert Classis by teeing off the roof of the Atlantis The Royal. It helped him win the event for a record fourth time. What's more, he now has more top two finishes (65) than he has missed cuts (58) over the last 19 years. Pretty impressive. And before anyone asks me, no you cannot tee off the Clubhouse roof! 🙂

While only 5% of golfers are left handers, we have a few here at Brocton. The British Left Handed Golfers Association are on a recruitment drive, so if you are a leftie, please raise your hand 🙂 Seriously though, this is a great society and in 2025 they are hosting the World Championships. There is a poster on the noticeboard by the back door or you can visit their website - www.leftiegolfers.org.uk

Nevil shared these photos of the course yesterday. It did not look good!

PAR FOR THE COURSE

Roger sent through a course update this afternoon regarding Course Maintenance. Please give Greenkeepers right of way this week and be mindful that the greens will be uneven while they are being deep verti-drained.

Last week the Greenkeeping team removed 20 tree stumps over two days! Richard Quine proving to be an expert with the stump grinder!

Last week Monday saw our Chair of Course, Roger Prenter-Jones getting into the ponds (again!). Not to retrieve balls but rather some fish. Roger and the Greenkeeping team netted the ponds on the ninth and seventeenth, removing some carp which were relocated and to be replaced by trout.

Some stunning photos Andy took early last Tuesday morning.

Only three weeks to go until the Tuesday Social is back. In the meantime, those tempting cobs continue to be a hit in the clubhouse.

Tables for Mothering Sunday are fully booked. If you haven't managed to secure a booking for this Sunday, our Sunday lunches are hugely popular here at Brocton Hall and reservations are required. Choose from one of our succulent roasts and enjoy fresh seasonal vegetables and traditional Yorkshire pudding. Hopefully you will still have space to enjoy one of our delicious desserts. We offer a wide range of vegetarian and gluten free options. View the menu here

MEMBERS QUESTION

You are invited to send any questions in that you would like one of the Management Committee members to answer. Often a committee member is approached on the putting green with a question that might not relate to their area of knowledge. This is a way for you to ask those questions.

Q. Over the past five to six weeks, many members have sent in questions to the MC regarding course closures and the use of buggies and trollies when the course is saturated.

A. These were all taken into account in a discussion at the MC on Wednesday evening.  The MC are currently looking at our current Buggy policy and will be updating this over the next few weeks in readiness for next Winter. The revised policy will consider the use of electric trolleys as well as buggies, and they will communicate with members about this issue well in advance of Winter 2024/25.

NOTICES

If you haven't yet completed our short (very short) AGM survey, please do so. It is important that all members have they say. View here

HOLE IN ONE

Did you know -

  • Tiger Woods has pocketed £660 million from his Nike contract over 27 years.
  • It took Jersey Jerry (yes, that is his name) 2627 attempts to ace the 7th hole at Pebble Beach on a simulator. It took 37 hours! That is worse than my hole in 4!
  • Max Homa holds the record for the longest drive with a whopping 477 yards!

Happy golfing everyone,

Karen
