BROCTON HALL GOLF CLUB

Three off the Tee - 16 April 2025 Newsletter

Hello there

A little late, but you knew this was coming 🙂

"It was all relief. There wasn't much joy in that reaction. It was all relief." That’s what Rory said when asked how it felt as the ball dropped into the hole, ending an 11-year wait for his fifth major. And honestly, I think everyone watching felt the same.

We were in London for a long weekend and after the pub we were in on Sunday evening closed, just as Rory & Bryson teed off on the 17th, six of us huddled around my phone on a pavement in Hammersmith with hearts pounding. Yes, Justin Rose would’ve been a worthy winner, but this one belonged to Rory. And, for once, my heart wasn’t broken 🙂 (Arsenal & Birmingham had done that already by not turning up on the pitch at Emirates and Wembley 😄)

It was an incredible week of golf — so much talent, so much inspiration.

On a more personal note, the rumours going around the clubhouse are true. I’ve made the difficult decision to resign. I’ve loved my time here more than I can say, and while I’m not entirely sure what’s next, it's time to for me go.

I’ll share my proper thanks and goodbyes a little closer to the time. For now, just know how much I’ve appreciated the journey.

Thank you Kevin Mellor for sending in this photo last week. Daffodils are always beautiful, but the play of light and shadows is stunning. Please remember to capture your moments and send them to generalmanager@broctonhall.com

Seniors

On Monday 14th April, Brocton seniors continued on their winning streak by beating a very strong Bloxwich team. A relatively close match saw the home side achieve a 6.5 to 3.5 victory. It was a great occasion followed by a lovely meal and we look forward to a return fixture at Bloxwich in August.

Hole in One

Some quotes from this years Masters.

  • This was the wildest day that I’ve ever seen in the history of major championship golf. We may never see another day like this in the history of the game. Brandel Chamblee
  • I’m delighted for Rory. I know that he’s had a lot of pressure on him. He’s had the world on his shoulders. That was wonderful to see him win. When he had to make a shot, he made it. Jack Nicklaus
  • I think it’s a different Rory. I think it’s an evolution of Rory. I don’t think he’s done winning majors this year. He’s got some great chances to add to it. Paul McGinley
  • Touch ‘em all, kid...this wasn’t just a Masters classic, it was a sports classic. Rich Lerner

And a few more from Rory 🙂

  • I'm not going to compare it to life moments like a marriage or having a child. But it's the best day of my golfing life. I’m very proud of myself. I'm proud of never giving up. I'm proud of how I kept coming back and dusting myself off and not letting the disappointments really get to me.
  • It was a heavy weight to carry and, thankfully, now I don't have to carry it.
  • What are we all going to talk about next year?

Happy golfing everyone,

Karen
