BROCTON HALL GOLF CLUB

Three off the Tee - 23rd April 2025 Newsletter

Hello there

The 153rd Open at Royal Portrush is set to become the second best attended in history, with almost 280,000 fans having snapped up tickets for the final major of the year in July and with Rory Mania in full swing. As much as I love Rory, I am not that keen on 280,000 people!

A wee bit closer - if you have certain Scottish postcodes, you can play The OId Course at St Andrews for only £42.50, saving you a whopper £297.50. On the other hand, the most expensive golf course to play in Scotland is currently Trump Turnberry which, from June I hear, will charge up to £1,000 for a round. Again, a no go for me.

We are pleased to welcome several new members who have recently joined the club. We encourage all existing members to extend a warm welcome and help them settle in, whether that’s inviting them for a game, showing them around, or simply offering a friendly hello. Let’s continue to make our club a welcoming and inclusive place for everyone.

We are now full with only Provisional Membership and Waiting List options available.

Thank you to Dan Wills for the stunning main photo that he took last night looking back over the 14th. For all new members, we have a 'Members Photo of the Month' which wins you £5 on your bar card. The aim is to see the course (and clubhouse) from different views and it helps those members who can no longer visit, to see the club through your eyes. Please send any photos to generalmanager@broctonhall.com.

Thank you to all those members who have popped in to see me or who have written to thank me for all I have done during my time here at Brocton. Your kind words are appreciated.

It is 'Drinks with the Captain' on Friday evening. Please join Captain Richard Gee and enjoy some great company and golfing chats in a light-hearted way. A chance to meet new people, organise a game with someone different and maybe get some alternative views on current matters arising at the club. Partners are welcome and there are always delicious catering specials on offer.

Andy is away this week, so there is no course update.

Pro Shop

The Titleist GT280 Mini Driver is in. With a head size of 280cc, this comes in at the smaller end of the mini drivers, but packs just as much of a punch. With movable weights in the head to change ball flights, and a sole shaped to make hitting this mini driver off of the deck easier, the GT280 offers a perfect middle ground between your driver and 3 Wood. Contact the Pro Shop to try it out now!

Hole in One

"The Driver’s Revenge"

I stood on the tee with a confident grin,
Ready to drive the ball straight in.
I swung that club with all my might,
But the ball shot off in a wild flight.

To the left, to the right, where would it go?
Only my driver could truly know.
It took a hard turn, right into the trees,
Where it found a new home among the leaves.

“Not again!” I groaned, “You’re messing with me!”
But the driver just chuckled, as happy as can be.
“You think you’re in charge?” it seemed to say,
“But I’m the one who’ll decide where we play!”

I teed up again, determined and tough,
But the ball dribbled off, just a little puff.
Straight into the pond, with a splash so clear,
I swear I heard that driver sneer.

I lined up my shot, and I gave it a whack,
But the ball took off with a slice and a crack.
It veered to the right, and then took a dive,
Right into a bunker, where dreams don’t survive.

“That’s it!” I shouted, “You win this round!
But next time, driver, you’re going down!”
But as I walked off, I heard a faint cheer—
My driver was plotting to ruin next year.

So now when I tee off, I do it with care,
Knowing my driver’s a trickster in there.
But one day I’ll master that devilish club,
Until then, it’s just me and the pub!

Happy golfing everyone,

Karen
