During his career, Seve won more than ninety times around the world. Every time he did, the church bells in his home town of Pedreña were rung in celebration.

“Golf is a compromise between what your ego wants you to do, what experience tells you to do, and what your nerves let you do.” – Bruce Crampton.

BROCTON HALL GOLF CLUB

Three off the Tee - 6 May 2025 Newsletter

Hello there

Please be aware that there have been recent reports of break-ins at golf club car parks in the area. Do not leave valuables visible and remain vigilant - report any suspicious activity.

A reminder that vehicles are parked at BHGC at the owner's own risk. The club accepts no responsibility for damage to vehicles or their contents.

When practising in the Walled Gardens, chipping towards parked cars is strictly prohibited. Even a light chip can cause unexpected damage..

We popped over Munich this last weekend with a group pf friends and caught a TSV 1860 Munich match. The passion for their local team was incredible - even trailing 3–1, the fans were 100% behind them!

From Munich to Texas (no, we stayed in Munich), Scottie Scheffler narrowly missed breaking a PGA Tour scoring record this weekend but still took home $1.8 million after winning The CJ Cup Byron Nelson with a final score of -31.

Congratulations to Ollie Sayfritz, Adam Rai Jnr, Niall Yates, Oliver Smith, and Jack Marshall for being selected for the U14 County Pathway Programme!

A special well done to Mia Gregory on winning the Girls County Schools Championship on May 4th at Newcastle-under-Lyme GC. Great effort also from Jack Harris, Dylan Brierley, and Alfie Wilby in the boys' event. Our Junior Section continues to shine. Well done all!

A tease of our new Summer menu being released this week. Does a steak, fried red onion and blue cheese on rustic, toasted sour dough or Chicken tikka naan bread waken the taste buds? Or the idea of a Smoked salmon and avocado salad on a gorgeous summer afternoon?

Hole in One

Did you know? Some unusual facts about Seve Ballesteros

  • He never used a golf ball marked with the number ‘3’. He was worried that doing so would result in him three-putting.
  • In the 1995 Ryder Cup, Seve persuaded the European captain Bernard Gallacher to let the team wear blue instead of green clothes on the final day. He had adopted blue as his lucky colour for the last day of a competition ever since he wore it to win the 1976 Dutch Open.
  • For more than 20 years, Seve slept with a pistol under his bed on the off-chance that his home was broken in to by intruders.
  • During his career, Seve won more than ninety times around the world. Every time he did, the church bells in his home town of Pedreña were rung in celebration.
  • His boyhood hero was Gary Player. He first met him in 1972 when he caddied in a celebrity pro-am to commemorate the opening of the La Manga Club. “His personality had a huge impact on me,” he said. “The first things about Gary that drew my attention were his powers of concentration and strength of will. We called him Manitas de Plata (‘Little Hands of Silver’, after the gypsy guitarist from La Camargue) because he had a magic tough and a fantastic rhythm. He really knew how to get himself out of a bunker!”

Happy golfing everyone,

Karen
