BROCTON HALL GOLF CLUB
Three off the Tee - 21 May 2025 Newsletter
Hello there
I am starting this week with a goodbye. I have been signed off by my doctor for the next two months, which takes me beyond my official resignation date, meaning I won’t be returning to the club. I want to thank you for your support and the many smiles over the years. My sincere apologies to those I haven’t had the chance to say goodbye to in person. I do hope to still see some of you at the Ben Holder jazz evenings. I am truly grateful for my time at Brocton. Thank you all.
Good luck to everyone playing in the Millennium Bowl on Friday. This year it is being played at Kedleston Park Golf Club. Let's bring the trophy home again!

A final photo sent in by Kevin Mellor. The rhododendrons around the course always put on a magnificent display at this time of year. Thank you to everyone that has sent in their photos over the past 4 years

Par for the Course
A slightly different one this week and with a different team. A wonderful group of Seniors have cleared all the dead wood and weeds out of the rhododendrons through from the drive to the first tee and enhanced our first tee. Thank you gents! A beautiful surprise for all.

Hole in One
Did you know golf legend Walter Hagen once lost the PGA Championship trophy — the Wanamaker Trophy — for nearly 12 years?
After winning in 1925, he allegedly handed it to a New York taxi driver and never saw it again. The trophy vanished until it resurfaced in 1938, tucked away in a dusty storage room at L.A.’s Saratoga Golf Club.
Surprising, considering the Wanamaker Trophy is hard to miss — it’s the largest in golf, standing about 2.5 feet tall and weighing around 12kg (27 pounds)!

Happy golfing everyone,
Karen
